Primary 5th Sunday Covenant Path Lesson: Teaching About the Temple

Primary 5th Sunday Covenant Path Lesson: Teaching About the Temple

Our picture book Welcome to the Temple: A Walk Through the House of the Lord pairs perfectly with many of the suggestions in Appendix B of Come Follow Me (For Primary-- Preparing Children for a Lifetime on God's Covenant Path).

Here are 3 other ideas for using Welcome to the Temple in your lesson:

1️⃣ Talk about how the temple centers around Jesus Christ. Flip through each page of the book, and have the children help you identify Jesus Christ in the illustrations and text (we’ve worked hard to include him on almost every spread!). Share your testimony of how the temple has brought you closer to Jesus Christ.

2️⃣ Ask the kids in your class if any of them have been to a temple open house, and encourage them to share their experiences and memories. As they recall a specific room or area in the temple, open to that page and talk about the purpose of that room and what happens there.

3️⃣ Discuss how covenants help us form a deeper relationship with Heavenly Father. Turn to the following pages one at a time and talk about what covenants are made in that area of the temple: Baptistry, Initiatory Area, Instruction Room, Sealing Room.

Not serving in Primary right now? These ideas also work perfectly for Home Evening!

📚 Welcome to the Temple: A Walk Through the House of the Lord is a temple-open-house-in-a-book that leads kids through each area of the temple with beautiful full-spread illustrations of each room and simple descriptions of temple ordinances and symbolism.
